At Hardy Dumpster Rental in St. Louis, we have proudly served the city for several years. Over the past several years, we’ve encountered many people who were unsure what type or size dumpster would work well for their project. Many people wouldn’t even know how much debris their DIY would generate, so they could not book a dumpster ahead of time. The good news is that we are here to help. The 10-yard dumpster happens to suffice for most DIY projects. However, renovation projects like for the kitchen and bathroom at the same time will generate a lot more debris, which is where the 20-yard dumpster suffices.

We often have people who call us to hire the largest dumpster we have available so that they have enough space for when they need it. In reality, unless they are responsible for a large demolition project, the 30-yard dumpster will serve the purpose. Though the 40-yard dumpster is also an option, it may be too large for most homes, making them impossible to place on the property.

In our opinion, the 30-yard and 40-yard dumpsters are primarily ideally suited for contractors working on large projects that will generate a lot of waste.

At Hardy Dumpster Rental in St. Louis, we work with homeowners to determine what size dumpster will best fit their needs, helping them choose the right one.

If this is your first time renting a roll-off dumpster, below is a short description of each size that will aid you in choosing the right one.

The 10-yard dumpster

Dimensions: 6-feet wide by 12-feet long by 4-feet tall

The 10-yard dumpster may be the smallest size dumpster available, but it is the best size for most DIY projects. Almost 80% of homeowners will find the size adequate for disposing of most household items.

You will want to choose the 10-yard dumpster to:

  • Discard concrete and drywall
  • To discard demolished drywall and concrete chunks
  • Dispose of landscaping waste
  • It can also handle the waste from a small remodeling project.

The 20-yard dumpster

Dimensions: 8-feet in width by 20-feet long by 4-feet tall

Now, if the 10-yard dumpster isn’t large enough, then the 20-yard dumpster is twice its size. If you are remodeling multiple rooms in the home, perhaps the 20-yard dumpster will be a good choice.

You should choose the 20-yard dumpster if:

  • You need to discard waste generated from a reroofing project
  • Need to dispose of broken or unwanted furniture
  • Debris from a living room or bedroom remodeling project

The 30-yard dumpster

Dimensions: 8-feet in width by 22-feet by 6-feet tall.

The 30-yard dumpster is an excellent choice for discarding waste generated by a medium-sized project. It can accommodate debris from all types of demolition projects. It is large enough to accommodate most types of waste.

The 40-yard dumpster

Dimensions: 8-feet by 22-feet by 8-feet tall

The 40-yard dumpster happens to be the largest one and often the size of choice for most contractors. However, the 40-yard dumpster is large, which is why you will want to have enough space on the site before renting it. That’s why it is ideally suited for commercial projects, where space isn’t an issue.
